Hear from past volunteers, Interns
Since Prakti's inception, numerous volunteers and interns have done remarkable work and found in Prakti an exciting workplace. Hear from some of them directly:
Shifali Goyal, Industrial Design student at Srishti School of Art, Design and Technology located in Bangalore), 2009 Shifali worked on her diploma project with Prakti: design the cheapest and most efficient, single pot, cottage made, wood fire cooking stove for the South Indian market (Tamil Nadu and Karnataka in particular). What Shifali liked about working with Prakti:
the work culture and atmosphere
the constant support and encouragement
learning how R&D works around the globe
the spirit of working together and for good, even with financial constraints
Ellie Griffiths, Master of Engineering, The University of Nottingham, UK; Prakti volunteer, Jan-March 2010. Ellie Griffiths, Master of Engineering, The University of Nottingham, UK; Prakti volunteer, Jan-March 2010. Ellie first worked in collaboration with Prakti for her final year dissertation where she designed and built an improved
cookstove, and sent it to Prakti for field testing. After completing her degree, she returned to Prakti to do research and testing into the effect of moisture acquisition on the stoves during manufacturing and throughout their lifetime. She then trialled and tested incremental changes to various stove designs and of fuel variation, to establish the effect on performance and usability. She spent considerable time in the field establishing stove usability and performance from users perspective. In addition, she developed simple guidance leaflets, presentations and set up workshops with field staff to allow them to pass this information effectively to the end users. What Ellie liked about working with Prakti:
working with the wonderful and assiduous team, and
spending time with the end users in the field and gaining feedback on the real issues they encountered and trying to improve on these.
